The technology behind Napsack

How Napsack™ - The weighted sleeping bag works

How does Napsack™ have a positive effect on my baby's sleep?

The Napsack™ weighted sleeping bag uses a technology called Deep Touch Pressure therapy (DTP). This technology is widely used in psychiatry and was initially used to calm people with autism, anxiety or other disorders who have difficulty calming down.

The technology has gradually become more widespread and well-known - and we understand why! Deep Touch Pressure is an extremely effective and gentle way to calm the nervous system while providing a sense of comfort and intimacy.

This technology has therefore also been used with great success for children with sleeping problems in the form of ball blankets, weighted blankets or weighted bags.

However, these are not adapted for the very young, where we have now created this Deep Touch Pressure product specially developed babies, so that your baby can feel just as relaxed and calm as inside mummy's safe tummy.

How Deep Touch Pressure effects on the body

Deep Touch Pressure works by applying a firm, gentle and soothing weight to the body. It may sound simple, but this triggers several calming processes.

With the gentle pressure hugging the body, the nervous system is calmed through stimulation and touch. This stimulates the senses and creates a greater body awareness, with the increased sense of the body's boundaries providing a greater sense of security and relaxation.

This reduces the stress hormone cortisol while releasing the hormones serotonin and dopamine (the happiness hormone), giving a pleasant, safe and relaxing feeling.

The hormone serotonin is converted into the sleep hormone melatonin and therefore first helps your baby to calm down and to feel safe and comfortable, after which sleep occurs - your baby can therefore have a calm, deep and safe sleep.

What does Deep Touch Pressure feel like?

Deep Touch Pressure puts a very gentle and mild pressure on the body, and therefore it can be compared to a gentle hug, being hugged or caressed. It is a pleasant and soothing feeling and can be compared to when the baby was in the mother's womb and was surrounded by amniotic fluid.

The weight placed on the body is created by soft, loose plastic balls placed inside the sleeping bag. Each time your baby moves in sleep, the plastic balls move and a new weight is placed on the body which continues to calm the nervous system.

How is Napsack™ designed?

Napsack™ is designed for restless babies, and the sleeping bag is therefore produced so that, unlike other ball blankets, it cannot be kicked off during sleep. Napsack™ is made from the best and softest materials that are 100% free from chemicals and harmful substances - nice and soft and 100% baby friendly.

The sleeping bag can be pulled down over the head, or you can put your baby in from above like a normal sleeping bag. On the front of the Napsack™ you will find a cute teddy bear design. This also works as a pocket which contains the weighted polyester balls which help to create heaviness and give your baby the feeling of security.

The Napsack™ is carefully manufactured and designed for babies with a Scandinavian, user-friendly design that is even easy to wash and clean.

Fabric thickness and material - is the sleeping bag warm or cold?

To make sure your baby doesn't get too hot during naps, we've carefully selected a standard fabric thickness of 1 TOG (measure of thickness). This way you can be sure that the sleeping bag can be used all year round without your baby's body temperature getting too hot.

In colder periods, you can add an extra layer either under or on top of the sleeping bag in the form of a blanket, clothing or an extra duvet. Suitable for temperatures between 12 and 25 degrees, the Napsack™ sleeping bag can be used alone for most of the year.

What size should I choose for my baby?

Whether your baby is 6 months, 1 year or 2 years old and sleeps restlessly at night, you can find a suitable size here. It's important to choose the right size for your baby to achieve the desired effect.

If the size is too small, this can negatively affect your baby's sleep, as freedom of movement is important for a good, restful sleep.

On the other hand, a size that is too big may be so loose that the sleeping bag will bother you, or that you will not achieve the desired effect with the weighted balls.

That's why we've made it really easy for you to find the right size for your baby, with our size guide below to check if your baby wears S, M or L:

If you're still in doubt about which size is right for your baby, the rule of thumb is to start with baby's age, then weight and then height.
